1st XI enjoy great match with Sumertown Stars

The 1st XI welcomed the Summertown Stars U13 to Cothill on a gloriously sunny Thursday evening for their first match of the season. The pitch was resplendent and the football riveting.

The first half was dominated by a talented Summertown outfit, heaping wave after wave of pressure on to our goal, but Cothill's defence stood strong with valient emergency defending, captain Togrol making a world class save to see us head into the break all square.

After halftime, two quick-fire goals for Summertown meant the game looked all but over. Our boys were having none of it though as they battled their hearts out and began to push the opponents onto the back foot.

Shawn Okoronkwo slotted beautifully past their keeper to bring us to within one. Then, with two minutes left on the clock and the electric Martin Zhang steaming forward from centre-back to makeshift centre-forward, the latter dinked over a through ball and Shawn rifled it into the bottom corner to bring the scores level!

It was a brilliant comeback, showing fight, grit and determination from all of the squad. The draw was duly celebrated like a victory.

Thanks to Mr Foster for making the game possible and safe, Mr Bailey for donning his vibrant referee's kit, and Mr Sutton and his son Charlie for their help in organising the fixture.
